Now that the new iPad has been released, it’s time to focus on the next big Apple release: the iPhone 5. Rumors have been floating around for months now about when the new iPhone 5 may be released, and while there have been a lot of release dates tossed around, it’s still looking like the iPhone 5 will have a June or July 2012 release date. And if that happens, the iPhone 5 may just be debuting alongside another new, much anticipated smartphone: the Samsung Galaxy S3.
iPhone 5 Likely to Debut at WWDC 2012
The rumor of the iPhone 5 debuting at World Wide Developers Conference 2012 is not a new one, as we’ve talked about it quite a bit over the past couple months. It makes sense that the iPhone 5 would be announced at WWDC, as several other iPhones have been shown off at Apple’s popular developers conference. Although the iPhone 4S was released only five months ago, we still think that the iPhone 5 is most likely to come out in June or July 2012 simply because of the fact that Apple is itching to release the first 4G LTE iPhone–especially after just having released the iPad with 4G LTE built-in. They definitely don’t want to lose anymore ground to Android by delaying a 4G LTE capable iPhone 5 any longer.
Samsung Galaxy S3 Also Likely to Debut in Summer 2012
On the other side of things is the Samsung Galaxy S3. Given all of the recent lawsuits between Apple and Samsung, it’s clear that Apple sees Samsung and their Galaxy line of phones as a real threat to the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5. According to recent reports, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is set to be released sometime this summer. There’s no way Apple wants Samsung to upstage them by releasing the much anticipated Galaxy S3 well in advanced of the iPhone 5, which is another reason why we think the two will be released at roughly the same time–and this should make for a very interesting summer for smartphone fans looking to buy the latest and greatest.
A Quick Comparison of the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3
Those who are still undecided about whether they should get the iPhone 5 or the Samsung Galaxy S3 will want to know the specs of each as that will help to make the best decision. Although we’ll be delving further into the reported iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 specs later this week in a feature article, we’ll give a brief rundown here. Both the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S2 came with 1080p 8 MP rear cameras–so it’s likely that the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 will come with an even better camera, most likely at least a 10 MP one. The iPhone 4S and original Galaxy S2 also did not come with 4G LTE connectivity, so we expect this to change with the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3. Finally, it’s expected that both phones will come with an even higher quality display and perhaps both will also have an improved version of the Corning Gorilla Glass, given recent reports that the iPhone 5 will come with this glass installed.
