iPhone 5: Five Features We Want to See

iPhone 5 rumors and leaks have been turning up left and right over the past few weeks. We’ve heard about a possible 13 megapixel camera, 4G LTE, bigger display, and even NFC capability being found in the new iPhone 5. While we don’t know for sure what features will and will not make it into the iPhone 5 that is released to the public (likely to happen this summer), we do know some of the other features we want to see–beyond those that we’ve been hearing will be found in the iPhone 5.

Better Facebook and Twitter Integration in iPhone 5

With iOS5, Apple introduced Twitter integration where images can be uploaded to Twitter from the built-in iOS photo app. You cannot, however, upload images to Facebook directly from the photos app on the iPhone, which is something many people are not happy about. We’re hoping that Apple will improve both the Facebook and Twitter integration on the iPhone 5 so that pictures and statuses can be easily sent from the iPhone 5 without needing to launch the apps for both programs.

MicroSD Card Support

One of the things that separates the iPhone from Android phones is the fact that Android phones support the use of microSD cards to store music and other files on the device. Although many iPhone users are happy with the current iPhone size offerings (16GB, 32GB and 64GB), some need more space than this to adequately store their high resolution images and videos, not to mention their music and video library. It doesn’t seem likely that the iPhone 5 will have microSD card support, but it’s still something we’d love to see.

Better Battery Life and a Removable Battery

Even if you only make the occasional call or play the occasional game on your iPhone, you’re probably going to find that the phone needs to be charged at least once per day. In fact, many iPhone 4 and 4S have complained that the battery life on their device is too short. We’re hoping that the iPhone 5 will come with a longer lasting battery so that we only have to charge the phone every other day, rather than every day. Even more so, we’re hoping that the iPhone 5’s battery is removable so that we can easily replace the battery when it stops holding a good charge.

Better Zooming and Image Taking

The iPhone 4S camera is by far the best iPhone camera yet. That having been said, one thing we think could stand to be improved is the zoom functionality for the iPhone 5. You can’t zoom very much with the iPhone 4S, and when you do, the zoomed images appear very blurry. While we’re on the topic of image quality, we’d also like to see an even better camera in the iPhone 5. This doesn’t necessarily mean a camera with more megapixels (because having more megapixels doesn’t always translate to better image quality), but rather a higher quality camera that is capable of taking great images whether the lighting is perfect or too bright/too dark.

iPhone 5

Slimmer, New Design

Don’t get us wrong, we like the design of the 4S and don’t find it to be too terribly balky. However, when you compare the 4S to the ultra thin Droid Razr or Samsung Galaxy S2, the iPhone is a little thicker than we’d like. As we’ve been hearing that the iPhone 5 will come with a bigger display, we’re hoping that Apple finds a way to incorporate the bigger display while also making the iPhone 5 a little bit slimmer. Even if that means drastically changing the design of the new iPhone.

i wish they would make a physical switch, like the audio switch, to turn on/off wifi. and maybe another physical switch for airplane mode.

My list of Five essential iPhone V attributes:
    a) Larger, flatter, Stainless Steel casing – to support the larger screen – but retaining the same rounded-corner shape as the iP4/4S. Not for weak-wristed wimps, perhaps, but far stronger than its siblings.
    b) Removeable Li-Ion or Li-Fe battery.
    c) SDHC High-speed data card slot. These are faster, tougher and have higher capacity than those fiddly, fragile Micro-SD things – and the larger casing will have more internal space for the card drive.
    d) Improved camera sensor – like that in Fuji's X-100 or X-Pro 1. With Mega-Pixel count becoming increasingly irrelevant, it's improved definition that iPhone photographists are looking for…
    e) Finally, yet of the utmost essentiality – please ensure that there are at least one or two 'Apple-approved', Li-Ion or Li-Fe Battery Cases released at the same time as the iP5…And Produce a Proper Belt Pouch that will comfortably – yet securely – allow you to carry this combination…
Come on Tim, we know you're following in the footsteps of a giant, but this is what we want…!

External antennae! Many users travel either in cars, trucks or boats and there is no way we can plug in an antennae to boost the signal. Having just driven around Australia I found the signal between towns hopeless.
A car antennae would be so easy and could be sold by Apple for a "small" profit!

tethering. I'd be happy with that, a bigger screen and more hard drive space. Either that or an integrated cloud system. Smart phones should be working towards replacing what we use our computers for in everything but raw power. also, wouldn't it be cool if you could have devices such as this phone, and the ipod nano communicating with eachother, sharing updates and other things wirelessly. Having a few devices with dedicated jobs all feeding information back to a 'hub' smartphone could give us all sorts of interesting capabilities from navigation, health monitoring, safety etc.

I would like the ear phone wires to tangle free or a small plastic reel case to roll in it so that the head phone wires has longer life and we don't have to go in the market for duplicate or expensive once.. further the carry case too should be of a tough leather which be resistance to moisture and sweat of hands and threads don't come out.. :-) Lastly the cost too has to be considered ..why can't a common man have the pleasure to stay once in a palace ? :-))

Removable battery and SD card? Who needs that? What am I going to do with a stupid battery and a stupid SD card? I have iCloud, I don’t need removable storage.

Here's a suggestion I have not seen or heard about yet, for the iPhone…
I like to listen to the FM radio, so it would be nice to have that possibility, perhaps exactly like it is offered in the Nano iPod. That's actually what I have for radio, a Nano plus my iPhone. Kind of silly, I know, but I like the radio. So it would be nice to have that possibility in an iPhone! Cheers everyone.

Whether an Apple products novice or a tech-expert…make it user friendly. Larger screen, bigger alpha-numeric touch surface and removable battery so life can go on while another recharge is taking place. Also, think about screen icon placement…butt, purse or especially face cheek dialing or disconnect is a real pain. Thanks.

After reading all the comments I have come up with the following… I believe battery life is the most important thing I mean it wont matter what the phone can do or how advanced it is if its going to die half or even three quarters of the way through the day… like many others I also believe a removable batter would be an asset as its a simple fact that over time batteries start to hold a charge for less and less time. So it would be nice to be able to change it out.. it also give the choice of a spare batter back up for those that travel alot or just simply forget to charge their phones.
Other then that i don't believe much else is really necessary .. I say just tweak and improve upon what is already there… I mean the product already works some say a bigger screen but that increases the phones size which to me sounds just as silly as making it thinner I mean I for one don't want a phone that is like a piece of paper i mean the thinner you make it the more fragile it will become… and the bigger you make the screen the bigger the whole phone must be and then you end up taking up more space to carry it… they already have the tablet out for those that want a bigger screen. Just a thought

Proper gps and maps that can still operate when signal is lost.
Travelling by road or sea can be a pain when you lose your signal!

It should have a little notification light that the droids have that let you know you have a text! And you should be able to adjust the color according to different contacts. :)

I'd like to see the phone have a plastic or metal back rather than a glass back. I actually like the back of the 3G better, and it seems less damage-prone. Also, many of the iPods have metal backs, so it seems like would be possible.
